The
Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) on Tuesday said it was no longer
safe for its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, to be attending court hearings,
alleging that the Department of State Services (DSS) had hatched
sinister plans to eliminate him through arranged motor accident on his
way to court.
The pro-Biafra group, in a statement
issued by its media and publicity officer, Comrade Emma Powerful, said
it decided to raise the alarm following the findings of its intelligence
unit.
“The plan was perfected by DSS and the federal government to be executed by prison authorities,” IPOB said.
According to the group, its intelligence
unit had discovered that the plan to kill Kanu through fake accident
was the reason the DSS alleged that IPOB was planning to snatch the
director of Radio Biafra on his way to the court.
It further explained that the kidnap
theory was a decoy by DSS to carry out their sinister plan to eliminate
Kanu and then link it to an accident, ostensibly to hide their murderous
deed.
“The IPOB world wide family is calling
on the international community, amnesty international and all relevant
human rights organisations to take note and caution the FG and DSS
(because) if anything happened to IPOB leader we will not take it
lightly,” the group said in the statement.
The pro-Biafra organisation wondered how
a non-violent and harmless activists would invade a court premises
swarming with well armed security agents in order to kidnap Kanu, adding
that the allegation was enough indication that the DSS and its pay
master “are confused” in their trumped up charge against the IPOB
leader.
“MASSOB and IPOB have no such intention,
plan as we know that Kanu and others committed no offence against
Nigeria,” the statement said, adding that “we depend and focus on divine
justice of God.”
On the decision of the federal
government through the DSS to use masked witnesses to testify against
Kanu, IPOB said that it was a mark of “cowardice and unsteadiness.”
